Region
Les Trois Chênes Chambres d’hotes, is situated on the edge of the tiny, hamlet of Videix. Despite having only a handful of houses, Videix has a Mairie, which used to house the old primary school, and a listed ancient church.

Videix Lake is only a few minutes by car or a short walk away. It has three lakeside restaurants, a nautical centre open in summer, where boats can be hired, fishing,  swimming areas, beaches, children’s play areas and picnic tables. Enjoy the peace of looking out over the lake on a warm sunny evening, in the calm and tranquility.

Périgord-Limousin Natural Park Les Trois Chenes Bed and Breakfast is situated within this area designated for its beauty, history, wild life and remarkable natural sites. It is also an area rich in traditional crafts, cuisine and festivals, the ‘Soufflets’ carnival, mushroom, wood and chestnut fairs, a brass band festival, a turkey fair. And the park is scattered with pretty hamlets and villages, ancient churches and frescos.

Limoges, designated Ville Fleurie for its imaginative floral displays and exceptional tree cover and parks, is principally famous for its porcelain. A dynamic town with excellent shopping facilities, museums and buildings of interest. The botanical gardens are of particular interest in the summer.

The beautiful and historic cities of Angoulême and Perigueux are not far away.

Limousin, termed ‘Hidden France’, has been overlooked as a tourist attraction until recently, which means that its natural simplicity and traditions have been preserved. Verdant pastures, covered in wild flowers and herbs, feed the magnificent Limousin beef cattle; the many lakes and rivers are teeming with fish. Limousin is rightly proud of its clean air and waterways, and its more natural way of farming. It is not uncommon to see pine martins, foxes, and wild boar, while deer graze the fields and woods all around. The Limousin woodlands are famous for the supply of oak wine barrels and its wildlife. La Chasse, or the hunt, and fishing are close to the heart of the local people.
Events and attractions: There are many things to do for all the family.
To see just a few, take a look at some events listed in our Diary and attractions shown in our Links.
Les Salles-Lavauguyon The wall paintings of the abbey church, dedicated to the holy Eutropius first bishop of Saintes, are one of the most beautiful ensembles of medieval paintings in France. The paintings, executed in fresco technique, probably date from the middle of the 12th century. This is one of several churhes that you will find on La Route Richard Coeur de Lion.
La Rochefoucauld is a beautiful town with a fairytale chatea and is only 30 minutes drive, while Saint Junien, famed for its glove making industry, is the same distance in the opposite direction. There is an excellent golf course at St Junien.
The Roman baths of Chassenon, in the Charente, are among the best preserved monuments of the Roman Empire. On three levels, with  high walls, and gorgeous hot baths...Don't miss this unique site !
There is an English-speaking guide, or a free audio-guide in three languages.

Rochechouart, just ten minutes away from Videix, is a vibrant town with its imposing Château dating back to the 13th century, and its Romanesque cathedral with its famous twisted spire. Today the castle functions as a museum of modern art and it hosts several travelling exhibitions a year as well as a permanent collection. The castle itself, and many of the other ancient buildings in the region, including Les Trois Chênes, derive their distinctive character from the stone of a meteorite, which fell nearby about 200 million years ago. You can visit the meteorite museum in Rochechouart.
